About Marywood

|
Marywood strives to produce calves that weigh half of their
mother’s weight at weaning, and produce a 1300 lb animal within 13 months of age
for slaughter. Our breeding goals are to produce the best female and the second
best carcass. Our ideal cow matures early and is very fertile, weighs 1400 lb
and produces a 700 lb calf at weaning, and breeds back within 60days. We
produce breeding animals and strive for two sales per year. The animals that do
not make our breeding requirements are sold by boxed meat.
Marywood Simmentals is a family operated cow calf farm with Ron, Mary Ellen and
son Josh Wooddisse in Wellington County, Ontario. The farm is home to 130
purebred Simmental cows, as well as, some Red Angus and crossbred cows.
Marywood Simmentals was the combination of two names Mary Ellen and
Wooddisse created by Ron to sweeten the news of a surprise purchase of a couple
of purebred Simmental cows. Ron continued to get involved in the local
Simmental association and the Ontario Simmental Association gaining industry
knowledge and contacts, then onto the Canadian Simmental Association. Marywood
grew in size with the support of brother’s Richard (Richwood Simmentals), Dave
and brother in-law Bob McFarlane (McRobdon Simmentals).
